THFHS Scholarship Fund

The Hubbell Family Historical Society Scholarship Fund, founded in 1992, is a committee within THFHS. As the Society was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service, this means that contributions are tax deductible for income tax purposes.

  • The purpose of the fund is to award scholarships to descendants of immigrant Richard Hubball who came to North America from England.

  • Applicants must be members of the Society, or children or grandchildren of members.

  • Eligibility requirements include satisfactory completion of one year at an accredited college and awards are intended for undergraduate study only. Only one award is given per applicant with the number and amount of Scholarships to be determined by the officers and directors of the fund.

The first two $500.00 Scholarships were awarded in 1996 and three $500.00 awards were given in 1997. In 1998 the number and amount was increased to four scholarships in the amount of $750.00 each. Beginning with the Academic years 2001-2002 six $1,000.00 scholarships were awarded. Thirteen scholarships have been awarded through 2001 totaling $17,500.00.

For the 2003-2004 academic year, the Scholarship Fund awarded ten $1,000.00 scholarships to eligible applicants.  In 2004-2005, seven $1,000.00 scholarships were awarded.  In 2005-2006, the Fund awarded five $1,000.00 scholarships.  The number and amount of Scholarships to be awarded by THFHS for the 2007-2008 academic year will be three (3) $1,000 scholarships.  The number was determined at the Board of Directors meeting in June 2007. Scholarship recipients are chosen by lot.
