THFHS 25th Anniversary

Michigan to Host 13th Biennial

THFHS 13th Biennial Reunion ~ Frankenmuth, Michigan

The Board of Directors of The Hubbell Family Historical Society has selected Frankenmuth, Michigan, as the site of the 13th Biennial Reunion and the 25th Anniversary of THFHS, in June 2007.  Charles Brewster Hubbell, born 1811, will be the featured ancestor honored at this Reunion. The Michigan area was very important in the growth of the Union, being lush with forests and lumber was plentiful. For this reason, Charles Brewster Hubbell and family moved to the state to carve out a living.

The Reunion Headquarters will be at the Bavarian Inn Lodge nestled on the banks of Cass River in downtown Frankenmuth – Michigan’s Number One Tourist Attraction. A visit here is like stepping into an Old German Fairy Tale in Michigan’s “Little Bavaria”.

Frankenmuth was founded in 1845 by a group of fifteen German - Lutheran missionaries who came to the area for the purpose of teaching Christianity to the Chippewa Indians. “Franken” depicts the province from which the settlers came and “Muth” means courage in German. The name “Frankenmuth” thus means “courage of the Franconians”.

Today, Frankenmuth is a thriving community of 4900 residents who take great pride in preserving the German Heritage. Area homes, businesses and surrounding farms remain neat and clean reflecting the German ethic. Well-tended flowers and lush greenery abound in what many visitors describe as the most authentic Bavarian architecture to be found anywhere in the United States.

Frankenmuth is famous for its good food. Two of the country’s largest family restaurants, the Bavarian Inn and Zehnders, date from 1856 and 1888 and combine to serve nearly two million dinners a year. These world-class restaurants specialize in all-you-can eat family style chicken dinners. Other excellent restaurants are available nearby including: Tiffany’s – an original turn of the century restaurant/bar featuring fresh pastas, pizza, and charbroiled specialties; the Panda King Buffet and Szechuan House serving oriental specialties; Lorelie Lounge in the Bavarian Inn Lodge featuring nightly entertainment and German cuisine; Sullivan’s Black Forest Brew Haus and Grill specializing in hand crafted beer, fish and chips, barbecue, seafood and char grilled steaks. Fast food restaurants are also close by, within blocks of the Bavarian Inn Lodge.

Frankenmuth has many famous attractions that bring three million visitors each year and make it the most visited destination in Michigan. The city is home to Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, the world’s largest Christmas store, the size of 1 ½ football fields, with over 50,000 gifts and holiday trimmings. Frankenmuth also has cheese and sausage factories, woolen mills, an operating flour mill, leather shops, fudge and candy kitchens, an art gallery, a museum, and over 100 quaint village gift shops. Visitors can take a horse drawn carriage down Frankenmuth’s Main Street, enjoy a riverboat ride up the nearby Cass River, experience a German glockenspiel, stroll across the largest wooden bridge built this century, attend a number of music, art, and folk festivals, and enjoy unlimited shopping opportunities. The Frankenmuth Convention & Visitors Bureau is ready to provide details and help make a visit to “Michigan’s Little Bavaria” a most memorable experience.

The Bavarian Belle cruises the Cass River.

Our convention will be held in the Bavarian Inn Lodge where 100 Bavarian- themed rooms have been reserved (check it out at http://www.bavarianinn.com/). This large seven-acre family resort features five swimming pools (including one adult only pool where swimming suits are still required), 360 unique guest rooms, an 18 hole mini-golf course, two lounges, nightly entertainment, two gift shops, and four tennis courts.

Because Frankenmuth is a very busy city on the weekends, it was necessary to start the reunion on Sunday and have the Gala Banquet on Friday evening rather than the traditional Saturday evening. By starting the festivities a day earlier, there is a personal savings of approximately $129.00 for the week’s room rent. The room rate will be $89.00 per night plus tax single, double, triple and quad occupancy per room per night. There will be an additional $12.00 charge per person for the 5th or 6th person in the same room. Rollaway bed charges are $12.00 per night and cribs are $5.00 per night. Individual reservations are due 30 days prior to arrival accompanied by a deposit equal to one night’s stay plus tax. All rooms not reserved in a guest’s name 30 days prior to arrival will be released from the group block. Reservations may be made by calling the toll free number 1-888-775-6343 and referencing reservation number 10I33N.
