RiverPoint, the new home of Hubbell Center.

Situated in downtown Des Moines, the Hubbell Center is a library and museum dedicated to the collection and preservation of items relating to the HUBBELL, HUBBLE, HUBBALL, HUBBEL, HUBEL and HUBLE families of the United States, and their ancestors from Great Britain and other countries. 

The Center also serves as the focal point for The HUBBELL FAMILY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, (THFHS), which is associated with the Center, and provides financial support, structure, and membership. Hubbell Center is a tax exempt not-for-profit corporation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Each of the Directors serves for a period of two years, but may be reappointed. The regular Directors are named by the Board of Directors of THFHS. Those indicated by an *asterisk are not HUBBELL descendants (as required by an IRS ruling). All, however, have an interest in the THFHS, and the HUBBELL CENTER.

Photo taken August 2000.The Historian of the Center is former Director, HAROLD B. HUBBELL, whose years of HUBBELL family research are summarized in The History & Genealogy of the Hubbell Family, and whose field notes are a major holding in the Center's HUBBELL research material and library. 

PATRICIA DAWSON serves as the Librarian and Curator of the Center, and is available to assist all HFHS members and other interested persons. Pat catalogs and maintains all books, research materials and memorabilia in the Center., and acts as a liaison between the Center, THFHS, and other resource facilities. 

The MISSION:

The mission, and purposes, of the HUBBELL CENTER are spelled out in the mission statement adopted by its Board of Directors. An abbreviated outline can be found in the Center's brochure, HUBBELL CENTER, A Family Resource, which is distributed to the membership of the THFHS and the public at large. Additional information can be found in the periodical booklets published by the THFHS.

RESEARCH Facilities:

The Center is available for HUBBELL family research purposes, in person, by telephone or by e-mail, and is open to the general public the first and third Saturdays of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Out of town visitors may also make special arrangements to visit the Center by contacting Pat Dawson. Pat is also available to assist with research, and will make copies of appropriate materials, where found.

ARTIFACTS & MEMORABILIA:

The Center also holds many artifacts and pieces of memorabilia relating to many of the HUBBELLs, in whatever way the surname may have been spelled. Those relating to EDWIN POWELL HUBBLE, astronomer, and CARL OWEN HUBBELL, professional baseball player, are just two examples. Photographs of many of these HUBBELL related items, contributed by members of the THFHS, can be seen in the Hubbell Center Gallery.

CONTRIBUTING HUBBELL ARTIFACTS:

The HUBBELL Center serves as a depository, Museum and Archive for anyone wishing to contribute artifacts, memorabilia, research papers, books, HUBBELL family histories, etc., which have been dedicated to, or in recognition of, accomplishments of any HUBBELLs, by whatever spelling. Such memorabilia and research items may be deposited with the Center on a loan basis, or donated, permanently, as a charitable deduction and gift. Photos of some of the items now held are shown in the Hubbell Center Gallery.

The present suite housing the Center has been made available, through the generous contribution of HFHS members, JAMES W. HUBBELL, Jr., JAMES W. HUBBELL III, and the Hubbell Realty Co., of Des Moines, IA. The contribution of HUBBELL artifacts, or a cash donation, is encouraged and deductible to the extent of the current tax regulations.

To make arrangements to visit the HUBBELL CENTER, contact Pat Dawson, and she will assist you with your hotel and transportation plans.
