Welcome to the Land of the Midnight Sun, and the Tenth Biennial of THFHS, which was held in picturesque Kenai during the Summer Solstice-- when it is light all night! Kenai is located 160 highway miles (65 air miles) from Anchorage on the beautiful Kenai Peninsula. This historical town sits perched on a bluff overlooking the mouth of the Kenai River and Cook Inlet. Recently selected as an "All American City", Kenai began as a village with a Russian background in 1791; the Kenaitze Indians, however, occupied the area long before that. Kenai is also home to the widely recognized Alaska Challenger Space Learning Center, opened in 2000; and one of the best 18-hole golf courses. The surrounding Peninsula provides fine opportunities for viewing fjords and glaciers, fishing for salmon and halibut, digging razor clams, hiking and camping, and viewing wildlife in spectacular scenery. Hubbell cousins enjoyed an exciting week of genealogy, fellowship, and fun in America’s last frontier. |
